I’m reading Pars II: The nice illustrations and book design add to my pleasure when working in this book. Feb 18, Kg4jbj rated it it was amazing Shelves: In the end of each of the 35 chapters, there’s a part that describes the new grammar and also a bunch of exercises.

The late Orberg is to be commended for doing such a good job! And it gives plenty examples to 1 figure out what’s going on, and 2 to get used to how it works and learn it without memorizing specifically. Since I immersed myself in writing, reading, and speaking it aloud I made a very strong connection and retained much of what I lihgua.

The idea of learning Latin through easy, short messages-sentences- is excellent. The progression from chapter to chapter is ideal and enables one to speak simple phrases very quickly, and eventually to be able to use all the basic grammar.

Starting with the simple -s, -m, -t sentence, it quickly works its way up to the complexities of poetry. I really enjoyed the approach to Latin in Lingua Latin per se Illustrata. Another phrase brought to mind a Russian equivalent.

Lastly, the book comes with three different exercises, one where you are asked to complete words of different sentences, another where you are supposed to answer a question written in Latin about the meaning of the chapter and lastly another exercise with somewhat different questions.

Familia Romana Pars I of the Lingua Latina series contains thirty-five chapters and describes the life of a Roman family in the 2nd century A. I simply cannot recommend this book highly enough!

The book is beautifully presented with glossy paper and beautiful colour illustrations realistic, not googly cartoons as seem to be popular in books for language learning. If you are wanting to learn Latin as a living language, this is THE book.

My main book will be the Cambridge series, which I has. What I will say is this: Well, the first half of the book went very well.


With that background in mind, this book was absolutely the best foreign-language textbook I’ve ever read. An excellent introductory Latin textbook with a pure immersion approach.
